We're Expanding ... Again!
Since being formed in May 2004, AmeriLux International has expanded its current facility twice. In 2009, we expanded the distribution center and operations space, nearly doubling the physical plant size. In 2012, we completed another expansion to the distribution center; bringing the total square footage of operations space to just under 60,000 square feet.
This time, AmeriLux is adding an additional building. The 30,592 square foot facility is being built on the vacant property adjacent to our East De Pere location and will house our extensive inventory of multiwall polycarbonate products. The new building will have 161 unique storage locations; providing us the opportunity to improve our lot control, minimize double handling of material, and allow for a true FIFO inventory system.
Progress photos and updates will be added regularly, so check back often!
Building Expansion Update: September 8th, 2017
The crew continued their work this week transforming and expanding the existing landscape. There was a lot of excitement mid-week when an 80-foot-tall flagpole was erected in front of our main building. With the help of a crane, the pole was hoisted into a metal sleeve within a 6-foot-wide, 8-foot-deep, concrete-filled hole. The pole was centered, plumbed vertically, and set with 800-pounds of sand. There will be a special flag raising ceremony on Monday, September 18th.
Building Expansion Update: September 1st, 2017
Construction of our new building is nearly complete. Besides a few minor issues that are being addressed, everything’s coming together nicely. On the inside, the phone and paging system is now operational as well as the wireless network; providing a means of effective communication and coordination between our two facilities. Outside, the retention ponds are built and the final grading is complete. Landscaping began this Monday and will continue for several weeks.
Building Expansion Update: August 25th, 2017
The excavation crew built a retention pond in the front of the new building this week as well as finished the final grading. The Multidirectional Sideloader was busy moving material and filling the new racking system with long pallets of polycarbonate panels. The vertical nature of the racking system makes excellent use of floor space, offers optimal storage, and allows for easy access to inventory.
Building Expansion Update: August 17th, 2017
The final coat of asphalt was laid on the new parking lot yesterday, giving it a smooth finish. The lot striping was painted on and additional ADA-compliant spaces were created. These new accessible parking stalls along with an existing one feature a redesigned accessible icon. The new design displays an active, engaged image with the focus on the person, not just the disability.
The Accessible Icon Project started as a graffiti movement in Massachusetts, and has now grown internationally. The movement is focused on changing the perceptions towards disability. Learn more about this project at www.accessibleicon.org or http://www.nolimitsgb.org/accessible-icon.html
Building Expansion Update: August 16th, 2017
The new material handler has been assembled and completed its first ‘test run’ this week. Other than a few minor hiccups, several pallets of multiwall polycarbonate panels were successfully moved and lifted into the racking system. Overall, everything went smoothly and the Multidirectional Sideloader performed as expected.
Building Expansion Update: August 11th, 2017
The asphalt crew finalized the area adjacent to the new building earlier this week. Because of the heavy rain last week, the crew will need to return at a later date to put the final coat on the new parking lot. The installation of the racking is complete. Movement of the multiwall polycarbonate product line to the new building will begin next week.
Yesterday, the new Multidirectional Sideloader was delivered. Designed to move long pallets of product, this custom-built material handler will significantly reduce the amount of time spent moving polycarbonate panels in and out of the rack system. AmeriLux has invested heavily in racking and material handling equipment to improve efficiencies, quality, safety, and inventory control.
Building Expansion Update: August 4th, 2017
Multiple crews were busy inside the new building this week. Electrical and plumbing work continued. The fire pump has been installed. Maximizing space, a compressor now sits on top of the fire pump room. The three interior rooms have been drywalled and trim work painted.
Installation of racking began this week. The new building will have 161 unique storage locations. This will improve lot control, minimize double handling of material, and allow for a true FIFO inventory system. Outside, the new parking lot has been paved with asphalt along with an area in the shipping and receiving yard.
