High Efficiency = Lower Costs

Lumira® aerogel-filled Polycarbonate Sheets

Diffused Light
Undiffused Light

Multiwall polycarbonate sheets filled with Lumira® aerogel offer architects and building owners an insulated daylighting system that provides outstanding thermal efficiency, a high-quality source of diffused light, and an improved sound barrier. When combined with the diverse nature of a multiwall polycarbonate system, these factors allow for greater design flexibility and can meet a variety of needs.

These high-performance translucent daylighting systems have been incorporated in building designs in a wide range of applications illuminating workplaces, schools, hospitals, homes, and retail environments with natural light.

Lumira® aerogel is a lightweight daylighting solution that is completely recyclable, eco-friendly, non-combustible, and Cradle-to-Cradle certified. Incorporating Lumria® aerogel into a building’s daylighting system can assist in the challenge of meeting today’s strict energy and building code requirements. Inclusion of Lumira® aerogel can also assist in securing LEED™ certification.

If you would like to learn how you can incorporate Lumira® aerogel-filled polycarbonate panels into your next project, please contact us at 888-602-4441 or send an email to tech.service@ameriluxinternational.com.

Featured Project: D. Bradley McWilliams YMCA

D Bradley McWilliams YMCA at Cypress CreekD. Bradley McWilliams YMCA at Cypress Creek in Houston, TX is one of a series of recently renovated, previously deteriorating natatoriums that had rusting steel purlins, a painted install system that was peeling, and bronze polycarbonate panels. The owner, YMCA of Greater Houston, looked to Estudio Architecture and the Primetex Corporation (general contractors/construction managers based in Spring, TX) to revitalize the Cypress Creek YMCA and address the buildings “high interior temperatures”. Sundance Supply, a distributor of LEXAN* polycarbonate, provided Primetex with the technical “know-how” in addressing the YMCA’s building concerns.

The solution was to upgrade the polycarbonate panels to LEXAN* THERMOCLEAR* 16mm “20% low light” white and use a high quality Sundance Supply Base & Cap System in AAMA 2604 quality bronze. The rusting purlins are now an anodized aluminum. The projects end result is a stunningly beautiful transformation that provides long product life and a significantly cooler interior space, at an attractive installed cost.

At AmeriLux, we welcome your project questions from design to completion. Challenge our professional staff with an opportunity to achieve results for you. Please feel free to contact us by calling 888.602.4441 or by an email to tech.service@ameriluxinternational.com.

101 Uses of Polycarbonate

101 Uses of Polycarbonate: #22 Farm Buildings

Making a simple skylight or sidelite is a snap with CoverLite® Corrugated panels!

CoverLite® polycarbonate corrugated panels are perfect for skylight and sidelite applications, ridge lighting, and as vertical glazing in farm buildings, machine sheds and agricultural buildings. Corrugated MR 9” and MR 12” transparent polycarbonate panels match most standard metal roofing profiles, are UV resistant, and allow outstanding light transmission.

Lightweight and tough, these panels are inexpensive and easy to install with simple wood working tools.  Polycarbonate corrugated panels are designed to take on harsh weather conditions and the impact from day to day farm operations.

CoverLite® polycarbonate corrugated panels can also be used to retrofit skylights and sidelites in existing roofing applications.

101 Uses of Polycarbonate: #55 Office Partitions

A Unique Alternative to Conventional Office Partitions!

Polycarbonate office partitions can create spaces that are transparent, luminous, and protected acoustically. Interior office partitions designed with multiwall polycarbonate can provide privacy while allowing natural light to penetrate into the space and reduce the need for artificial lighting. Commercial warehouses, government facilities, office and residential buildings design partition walls with structured polycarbonate panels because of the material’s sound control qualities.

Available is a wide variety of sizes and thicknesses, multiwall polycarbonate panels offer a high degree of light transmittance while blocking harmful ultra violet rays. Structured polycarbonate sheets are economical and light in weight, yet 10 times stronger than acrylic and 200 times stronger than glass!

Featured Project: Minnesota DOT New Truck Storage Facility

Minnesota Department of Transportation New Truck Storage Facility located in Rochester, MN is a great example of a project in which the original specifications called for a Kalwall FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Panel) window system with fiberglass insulation. Bidding through glazing contractor Ford Metro, Wasco Skylights, headquartered in Wells, ME, was approved to submit their FPV window system as an alternate bid. (FPV is a translucent vertical window system that utilizes LEXAN* THERMOCLEAR* 25mm 5-wall clear polycarbonate panels for optimum daylighting.) The original specification called for a .23 U-value and Wasco was approved to bid panels with a .26 U-value. Determined to prove their FPV window system was the better choice for this project, Wasco expedited the necessary NFRC testing. The NFRC Thermal Tests verified the tested value on Wasco’s FPV window system. This proved the Wasco system to be the better choice and the architect awarded the project to Wasco Skylights.

Multiwall polycarbonate daylighting systems have been used for years in Europe (and other parts of the world) but are only recently being used by architects and builders here in the U.S. Gone are the days when polycarbonate sheets were associated with inexpensive plastic panels that yellowed with age. Today’s multiwall polycarbonate sheets not only receive a UV-resistant coating to eliminate yellowing, but are available in a wide range of thicknesses, structures and configurations that also help meet LEED® requirements.

101 Uses of Polycarbonate: #10 Canopy

Protection from Changing Weather

Canopies glazed with multiwall or corrugated polycarbonate are virtually unbreakable and are usually less costly than glass versions. Create a wonderful retreat in your own backyard with a polycarbonate canopy and bask in the outdoors in the shade even as natural light filters through. A polycarbonate canopy also provides outdoor protection from the sudden changes in weather.

The pleasant experience of time spent under a multiwall or corrugate polycarbonate canopy will be enjoyed for years to come!
