Frequently Asked Polycarbonate Question

8mm_Colors_Large
Moisture can gather in the panel’s flutes

Q: Why should I install multiwall polycarbonate panels in a vertical direction?

A: Moisture can gather in the extruded ribs or flutes of a multiwall sheet. Vertical orientation allows for water accumulation to drain. When used for a roof application, the slope should be at least 5 to 10 degrees, never level. Remember to drill weep holes if you seal the end of the panel with a U-channel.

What is Thermal Insulation?

thermoclear_imageThermal insulation is a sheets ability to reduce the transfer of heat energy by limiting conduction, convection, and/or radiation. Polycarbonate Term

Solar Transmission:

Building glazing’s that permit high levels of natural light may also lead to rapid interior heat buildup due to the penetration of near-infrared (IR) radiation through the glazing. The percentage of the directly transmitted heat that passes through glazing plus the absorbed and inwardly re-radiated heat is called solar transmission.

DIY Tip of the Month

When multiwall polycarbonate is cut to size, small particles of dust or plastic may become lodged in the open flutes. It is important that this debris be cleared from the flutes before installation. Remove debris with a vacuum or compressed air. Do not flush the flutes with water because it may take a long time to dry out.
